The Story Behind the Song

Back in 2000, when my first daughter was born, I wrote this little set of lyrics for her, expressing the way I felt at the time. While I was working on Refuge, I pulled these lyrics out and came up with a very simple melody for them, with the idea that I would use this song as an interlude between tracks. This song almost became an "intro" piece for "Little Angel", the lullaby that I wrote for Cassidy. However, after considering the two songs back-to-back, I decided that it really wouldn't work, so I shelved it.

When I began writing songs for the Fresh Hope project, I went through all my journals and lyric notebooks, just searching for ideas, and I found this song. I realized then that this would be the perfect intro to the album.

The meaning here is simple: I wrote this as an expression of joy for the baby that my wife and I had waited so long for. Likewise, I can easily picture Mary or Joseph singing this song in celebration of the birth of our Savior.
