Eric Gwin - Refuge

Lyrics

By Your Love

Words and Music by Paul Evans and Eric Gwin.

The Story Behind the Song

This song was actually written for "Ariel" back in 1991, but it was never performed publicly until 1999 when "Q" started doing it. When we stopped performing together, I felt that it had been long enough and that this song needed to be released. I also felt that this song also fit in perfect with the overall theme of the "Refuge" project.

The idea here is simple: people know what kind of person you are by the way you treat them. This is why Jesus was so effective. He had compassion and love for anyone and everyone who was willing to come to him and accept it. As a Christian, I am challenged everyday by the fact that the unbelieving world will only see Christ living in me though the love that I share with them.

The Lyrics

There they go again, talking about each other,
Breaking each other's hearts.
Forgetting that they are sisters and brothers.
Wearing Christ's name should set them apart.

Their actions speak louder than words.
Their love is what should be heard.

Chorus: They will know you by your love.
By the compassion that you show,
You answer the need and don't turn away.
And it's by your love that they will know
That you're a Christian.
It's by your love.

He doesn't wear your brand or look as good as you do.
Turn your back is what you'll do.
Don't you know Christ Jesus died for him, too.
It wasn't just for you.

Your actions speak louder than words.
Your love is what should be heard.

Chorus

Bridge: Tear down the walls of prejudice
And build up every man.
Break the barriers built by the tongue.
If you believe, you can.

Chorus 2x
