The Story Behind the Song

Okay…this one deserves a lot of explanation. This group, C.I.A., began as a puppet skit on a mission trip to York, PA. Baron Goins, Todd Mowry, Jason Todd, Marc Newman, and Jon Owen were the puppeteers and they performed a rap tune as part of one of their skits. Well, it went over great, and people began encouraging them to write more music in this genre. Thus was born the first, and probably only, Christian acappella rap group.

C.I.A. (Christians In Action) performed very few concerts and they only recorded one album, which is now out of print. Produced by Jon Owen, their album, “The Reason”, featured writing, arranging, and vocal contributions from Jon, Rob Williams, Mark Thompson, and me. This song is the only one that I wrote for the album and it features all four members of the group on lead. Although there were several songs written for a proposed second album, it never materialized. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
