Eric Gwin presents...Songs from the Vault Lyrics |
Divine Inspiration
Words and Music by Eric Gwin.
The Story Behind the Song
This song
is the very first song that I ever wrote. After working with Paul Evans on
"Healing Touch" and "Lions of God" for the first Ariel
album, Paul encouraged me to try writing one of my own for inclusion on the
album. I'm thankful he did, because it led to this song.
When it was written, the idea behind this song was God's input in doing something creative (like, say, writing a song!). Now, years later, I look at the message as being more than that. God should continue to amaze us and inspire us each and every day. In my life, God has become the "divine inspiration" for everything I do, not just in music.
By the way, my old Q pal, Jon Owen, once
recorded a version of this song that was quite cool, but he's never released it.
Maybe someday I'll talk him into it.
The Lyrics
As I look back at Christ's life on
this earth
I find comfort when I read of his birth
and it inspires me when I read that he died for me
I read of his ministry and I can feel glad
that he's still reaching out to those who are sad
I get inspired to write of his love for me
Chorus: He's my Divine Inspiration (He put the words in my mouth)
He puts a song in my soul.
And with his hand to guide me (all the way to Heaven)
Heaven is my supreme goal.
We read in the Bible of his works
and how he's always there where evil lurks
He's there to catch us every time we fall.
We strive daily to work for the Lord
and walk our paths by the light of his word.
We try our best to be like him every day.
Chorus
Bridge: I can't believe that a man would die
for a wretch like me
So its my duty to be an example
for all the world to see
Chorus
