Eric Gwin - Fresh Hope

Lyrics

Guide Me

Words and Music by Eric Gwin.

The Story Behind the Song

The music for this song was actually written back in 1991 as part of a song called, “Fight for Your Life”. The lyrics to that song were very intense and they really didn’t match the music, so I shelved the song altogether. When I began working on Fresh Hope, I pulled out this music and wrote new lyrics to it and it became this song.

Yet another perspective of the birth of Christ that is often not covered correctly (or completely left out) is the role of the wise men. When God placed the star in the sky, he was calling attention to the Messiah that the world had been waiting for. It’s obvious that the wise men from the East knew that they were being called to witness something extraordinary. Sure, it took them a couple of years to get there, but they knew that meeting the son of God was something that they had to do.

This song is written from the perspective of one of the wise men (or anyone else who feels God calling them to something) and it expresses the joy of being called by God. Imagine what it must have felt like to be among the first people to bow down and worship Jesus!

The Lyrics

Guide me to you
Guide me to you

I see your star in the sky
And I know what it means
It's your way of calling me to you
I don't know how long it will take me
A year, maybe two
But I know I have to somehow get to you
Please lead me, Lord

Chorus: Guide me to you
Please show me the way
Guide me to you
Please lead me, Lord

I've heard that you'd be coming here
All of my life
What I didn't know was if I'd live to see it
Now that I know that you are here
I won't waste any time
I know I have to somehow get to you
Please lead me, Lord

Chorus 2x
