Eric Gwin - Refuge

Lyrics

Love For One Another (Solo Version)

Words and Music by Eric Gwin.

The Story Behind the Song

This song was originally a Q track that had been recorded to completion by the group before the break-up in 2000. The original Q recording was mixed and released in 2002 on the "Songs from the Vault" compilation CD, featuring Jim Ingerson on lead vocals. When I began work on "Refuge", I pulled this song out and recorded a solo version of it, replacing the parts sung by the other guys with my own. As work continued on "Refuge" and the other songs began to develop, I realized that this song really didn't fit, so I pulled it from the project. It sat in my vault until 2011, when I pulled it out, re-recorded the lead vocal, and mixed it for this project.

The Lyrics

Living life on the edge of a heartbreak,
some have nowhere to turn.
They wish someone would reach out to them.
We pass people on the street each day. They wonder
where is our source of joy?
And why won't we share some of it with them?
If we've got all the answers,
why can't we provide solutions?
We look at life with blinders on
we see no one but ourselves
Why can't we help the man who's fallen down?
Instead we point out his faults to him
How will that help him out?
Shouldn't he know us by the love we share?
If he's looking for a savior,
will he find that savior in us?

Chorus: We need love for one another
We need to show them that the Lord's alive and well
We're all sisters and brothers
We need love for one another

I've never thought of myself as an example
of what a Christian should be
I'll admit I'm not perfect
But I started thinking about those who don't know him
Do they know he lives in me?
Can I show them who he really is?
If they can't find him in me,
tell me, where will they turn?

Chorus

Bridge: Do we love (as Jesus loved)?
Do we show (that we care)?
Can we make a difference with the love we share?
We need love

Chorus
