Eric Gwin - The Calling

Lyrics

The Calling

Words and Music by Eric Gwin.

The Story Behind the Song

This song was written on a plane between Houston and San Diego, heading down to Mexico for my second mission trip to the Baja village of Maneadero.

It wasn't until 2004, when I went on my first mission trip to Maneadero, that I had ever truly felt the calling of God into mission work. By going and seeing people in need of so much first hand, I was able to actually hear God calling out to my heart. Sometimes it takes a trip out of your comfort zone to see the face of God. I will forever be grateful to him for calling me when he did. The responsibility belongs to all of us to share our calling with a dying world. When we forget about ourselves and concentrate on serving, that call will be answered.

The Lyrics

I can feel it inside me,
Stirring deep in my soul.
Something I can't quite explain.
I can see it before me.
My vision is clear
And I know I'll never be the same.
There's a mission I have to accomplish.
I must give no less than my all.
To die to myself is the only way
I can answer your call

Chorus: I hear you calling me
Away from what I know.
Calling me
Out of my comfort zone.
You've given me a reason for
This life I live today.
You're calling me to give my life away.

Souls are dying.
All creation is crying.
This world's spinning out of control.
Though the world is against us
We must never give up
We must keep pressing for our goal.
There's a mission we have to accomplish.
We can give no less than our all.
To die to ourselves is the only way
We can answer your call.

Chorus
